Combining a beautiful, restored vintage coffee roaster and 30 years’ experience of creating and brewing premier ZEST beers, we specialise in hand blending and roasting exceptional coffee.
We hand-pick amazing, ethically sourced coffee beans from around the world. Most of our beans are speciality coffee arabica grown on much smaller scales and harvested by hand. We also use speciality and robusta beans in some of our blends to give slightly more exciting signature flavours and darker colour to our roasts.
Our restored artisanal roaster may be less high-tech and automated than some, but we love that we can use our beer brewing knowledge and experience with it to create and bring you perfectly crafted bean strengths, flavours and aromas.

who we are...
Simply Coffee Lovers
Kathy and Darren are the owners of the award-winning Lincolnshire-based Zest Brewery. In 2024, they invested in reopening the historic and much-loved Newark butchers, GH Porter Provisions.
Part of the ground-floor shop used to be a coffee roastery selling its own range of highly regarded and very popular coffees and speciality teas from around the world.
We simply love a decent coffee, so we decided to adopt and lovingly restore the beautiful vintage coffee roaster that had been bringing so many people so much pleasure for so long.
After we had it re-engineered back to its former glory, we underwent extensive coffee roasting training and research. Together with our knowledge and experience in beer brewing, we now use it to create gorgeous artisanal roasted coffees.

In an effort to unite the history of the old butchers, the established brewery, and the new roastery under one vibrant and memorable name, “The Pickled Pig” was born.

Experience & Expertise
We carefully select and roast amazing, ethically sourced coffee beans from around the world.
This means that most of our beans are the speciality coffee arabica, grown on much smaller family-owned farms and harvested by hand.
We do however, use a blend of speciality and robusta in some of our blends to give a slightly stronger flavour and darker colour to our roasts.
Sometimes we are unable to source the same beans time after time, but by only using ethical farms and farming methods, we ensure all our coffees look after the producers and that they always taste great!
Although our artisanal roaster may be less high-tech and automated than others, it allows us to use our brewing expertise and experience to precisely manage and control every single step of the process while using less electricity.
It also creates an amazing range of tastes, flavours and aromas to give you the perfect coffee in your cup.
